Program
Project HairCare
Developed in 2022, the CBHC’s novel Project HairCare (PHC) was created to help address mental health challenges that many hair shop operators note among their clients.

PHC
The Project
As trusted members of the Black community, barbers and stylists create a sacred space where clients often share mental health struggles such as clinical depression, anxiety, family stress, and substance dependence.

As certified Project Haircare team members, shop operators acquire skills and receive essential tools and resources to help clients improve their mental wellness and enhance their overall well-being.
“I’m very passionate to be part of this Mental Health project, especially for the African American community, which is greatly underserved. When my clients sit in my chair, they know I am there for them”.
Mykhal Goodloe, Hollywood’s Barbershop
Certified Stylists and Barbers
The program’s shop operators undergo a certification process that includes four sessions focused on identifying and assisting individuals with mental health issues. Additionally, stylists and barbers are trained to help customers manage stress using breathing exercises and other techniques.
PHC
Program Impact
Project HairCare (PHC) has certified over 29 stylists/barbers at 16 locations across the Denver metro area. The goal is simple: to ensure that individuals who may not typically seek help still have access to the essential resources they need to receive support.
