Need a date? How about three? In under five minutes?

No, we’re not talking about matchmaking; we’re talking about smoothie-making.

This smoothie recipe uses dates as a natural sweetener, which makes it a great choice when you want to satisfy your sweet tooth without the guilt. It’s also great when you need a speedy, filling and nutritious breakfast on the go.

Feel free to experiment with the ingredients a bit: Try it with avocado for a heart-healthy twist, add some protein powder for a post-workout snack, or add a pinch of flaky sea salt to the chocolate smoothie to add some savory to your sweet.

It’s easy, worry-free and fun — which is more than we can say about actual speed dating. Enjoy!

  • Servings: 1 glass
  • Prep Time: 2-10 minutes

Ingredients

1 cup almond milk
3 dates, pitted and roughly chopped
1/2 ripe banana, sliced and frozen
1/4 cup Greek yogurt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Ice cubes (optional)

For a green smoothie:
Add 2 cups spinach

For a chocolate smoothie:
Add 1 tablespoon cacao powder and cacao nibs for garnish (optional)

Directions

If you’re using dried dates, soak them in water for 10 minutes to hydrate. Pour almond milk and chopped dates into a blender and blend for about 1 minute or until smooth. Add banana, Greek yogurt, vanilla extract and ice (for a colder smoothie) and blend until well-combined. Take a sip and fall in love.
