The Sims-Fayola Foundation is hosting it’s second workshop in Denver, CO designed for educators and those who are looking to increase their capacity to work with young men of color from our “Working With Boys of Color” workshop series on October 22, 2018 at the University of Colorado Denver from 6pm-8pm. The workshop will be held at Student Commons Building at 1201 Larimer St. in room 2500A. Join the hundreds of educators around the nation who have participated in this impactful workshop series. The cost of the workshop is $20 and 2 Continuing Education Units will be offered to all participants.
The title of the October 22nd workshop is:
AN ISSUE OF EQUITY: PART 1
This workshop focuses on the prevailing disposition regarding students of color in general in this country, but boys of color in particular. We also focus on how those dispositions bleed into the schooling process and the impact on the attitudes, experiences, and social/academic outcomes of young men of color. This workshop is hyper-focused on challenging existing mindsets, conscious and unconscious, of those who serve young men of color and making the correlation between perception and practice. This workshop is the foundation of the other workshops in this series.

About The Workshop Series:
In the learning workshops, the staff will focus on increasing their understanding of working with young men of color in a traditional school setting as well as other social structures. The focus areas will be inclusive of the following four multi-dimensional areas: academic engagement, behavioral engagement, cognitive engagement, and affective engagement. Each of the learning workshops will also include restorative mediation techniques that your teachers and discipline personnel can access when engaging with young men of color.

3. Creating the Ultimate Classroom for Boys
4. Educating Adolescent Boys
5. Strategies for Improving Instruction for Boys of Color
