Free Community Screening

Toward a Black Psychology: Origin & Evolution of a Discipline

The Denver-Rocky Mountain Association of Black Psychologists is hosting a Free Community Film Screening Toward a Black Psychology: Origin & Evolution of a Discipline

Date & Time: 2 to 4 pm; Sept 15, 2018

Location: Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library – 2401 Welton Street; Denver, CO 80205

The achievements and contributions of Black Psychologists are conspicuously absent from most of the history of Psychology texts regularly assigned in Psychology courses around the world. Moreover, there is scant attention given in the curriculum of Psychology departments across America, in particular. This documentary film introduces viewers to the pioneering theories, methods, and techniques of African/Black Psychology and maps their historical development in the Diaspora. Come and join in a spirited discussion regarding this powerful culturally specific approach to addressing the mental wellness of people of African descent.
