Event Summary for The Gift of Life
In partnership with Donor Alliance, CBHC hosted an organ donation awareness event on November 18th, 2017 at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church. There was a special showing of the Movie, The Wish, highlighting the importance of organ donations for our community. The film centers on the story of an African American teacher who ultimately received a kidney transplant after her kidney had failed. The entire student body, including the most challenging student, rallied to increase awareness around the issue. They also encouraged others to tell their stores and give the gift of life.
The audience was further enlightened by 2 donors that were there to share their stores and answer questions. This was perfectly aligned, as the event was designed to begin the conversation in the Black community about this very important issue.
